Building fine furniture has always been a passion for me, but I must admit it didn't always come easy for me. My love for wood and for woodworking in general didn't come at an early age working in the wood shop with my dad like you would think. I actually barely scraped by in high school wood shop class with a "C" and a poorly constructed "toilet paper holder"!
But I digress...My love for woodworking grew out of necessity. I graduated from high school in 1985 without any college plans or any plans for that matter, but I do know I wanted to make money o my family was having a custom home built in Virginia Beach. I would always go to the job site with my dad to see the progress and my dad had a great repoir' with the builder and his crew. One thing led to another and before long I was an "apprentice finish carpenter" and something just clicked with me, the job and I became a natural.
Within a year at 19 years old I was running my own crew and by 25 I had started my own custom cabinetry and architectural millwork company. It was in the following years that with an incredible economy I was able to immerse myself into woodworking and furniture making, building high end pieces for local homeowners, designers and architects.
To this day at 47 years old I still work with wood every day and love what I do. Like someone wiser than me once said. If you work at something you love, you will never work a day in your life and that is exactly how I feel about working with wood.
